Born on September 15, 1981, in The Bronx, New York, Schwartz has been a fixture of the acting and comedy scene since his debut in 2006.T

Ben Schwartz is set to star alongside an ensemble cast of actors and comedians in the upcoming comedy series, Space Force.

He joins Steve Carell, John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Noah Emmerich, and Tawny Newsome, among others in the sci-fi-comedy series.

The official IMDb synopsis of the show reads:

"The people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services: The Space Force."

The show is slated to premiere on Netflix on May 29, 2020. 

6. Widespread Recognition as Jean-Ralphio Saperstein in Parks and Recreation

Schwartz's breakthrough role came as the brash, loud-mouthed Jean-Ralphio Saperstein in the NBC political satire sitcom, Parks and Recreation.

He managed to stand out and not get lost in the shuffle among the ensemble cast that consisted of, among other actors, Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, and Chris Pratt, among others.

The character of Jean-Ralphio Saperstein was earmarked for Schwartz, who impressed the show's co-creator, Michael Schur, so much so that he wrote the character specifically for Schwartz. Schwartz ran with the character, often improvising his lines.  

He played the character for five years, from 2010 to 2015.

5. Voice Of Sonic the Hedgehog

Schwartz has accumulated quite the repertoire of voice-roles over his career. His most high-profile voice-over roles include the titular role of Randy Cunningham in the Disney XD kids animated series, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja.

He voiced Rutabaga Rabitowitz in a handful of episodes of the adult animated drama, BoJack Horseman.

He is also part of the main voice-cast as Dewey in the animated series, DuckTales, and as Leonardo in the animated superhero series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

His voice career is capped off by his voice-work as the titular character in the 2020 movie adaptation of the Sega video-game character of the same name, Sonic the Hedgehog. 

The movie released theatrically on February 14, 2020, and starred Jim Carrey and James Marsden, among others.

He made numerous appearances in the web series, playing a litany of different characters from 2009 to 2014.

The web series remains CollegeHumor's biggest hit, with an estimated one billion views as of April 2017.

2. Writer on Late Show with David Letterman and Saturday Night Live

Schwartz is also known for his behind-the-scenes work as a writer. He worked for a brief time as a freelance writer for late-show host, David Letterman. He helped write the monologues for Letterman for his show, Late Show with David Letterman.

He also helped write the material for the Weekend Update segment of Saturday Night Live.

For his contribution in co-authoring Hugh Jackman's opening number for the 81st Academy Awards, Schwartz won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special at the 2009 Emmy Awards.
