As a matter of fact, Kurtulus and American actor David Lascher share a same birth date. Like Mehmet, Lascher was born on April 27, 1972. He is best known for his roles in the television series as Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

Kurtulus and Désirée Nosbusch reportedly met on the set of television film Eine Liebe in Saigon, where they played as Dr. Sarah Lorenz and Robin, respectively. According to the German tabloid newspaper, B.Z., the couple dated for seven years, from 2004 to 2011.

Nosbusch is a Luxembourg-born television presenter and actress who has worked in French-language and German-language films and television productions since her mid-teens. Désirée has two children from her previous marriage to the composer, Harald Kloser

After playing as an undercover agent, Cenk Batu, in the German television series Tatort, Kurtulus expressed his desire to focus more on his international film projects. He eventually co-starred with Samuel L. Jackson in the Finnish-British action thriller Big Game in 2014. 

Currently, Kurtulus appears in Belgian apocalyptic sci-fi drama thriller Into the Night, which is jam-packed with international actors as Laurent Capelluto, Jan Bijvoet, Astrid Whettnall, Babetida Sadjo, Pauline Etienne, Alba Gaia Bellugi, Nabil Mallat, Stefano Cassetti, Vincent Londez, Regina Bikkinina, and Ksawery Szlenkier.
