Charles Esten, known by his pseudonym Chip Esten, is an American actor, musician, and comedian. 

Born Charles Esten Puskar III on September 9, 1965, the 54-year-old was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but moved with his mother to Alexandria, Virginia, at 9, when his parents divorced.    

With more than three decades worth of television and movie appearances to his name, Esten is most known for his appearances in improv comedy shows like Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Drew Carey's Green Screen Show, and Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza.

He also starred in the ABC/CMT musical drama series, Nashville, and had guest appearances in shows like The Office, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, NYPD Blue, Cold Case, The Mentalist, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Most recently, he starred as Ward Cameron in the Netflix action-adventure teen drama series, Outer Banks.

7. Father To Three Children with Wife, Patty Hanson

Esten has been married to his college sweetheart Patty Hanson. They tied the knot on November 2, 1991, and they have been together ever since.

They have three children together: daughters Taylor Esten and Addie Esten, and son, Chase Esten.

6. Performer In Whose Line Is It Anyway? And Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza

Esten has also had a career as a comedian not only in comedy clubs but on comedy television shows. 

He was a performer on both the US and the UK versions of the improvisational comedy show, Whose Line Is It Anyway?

He was a performer in the fourth season of the original English series in 1992. When the show was adapted by ABC for the US, and later revived by CW, Esten became a recurring character. 

He went on to make appearances from seasons two through eight and returned for the thirteenth season.    

He was also a regular on many of Drew Carey's shows. After impressing Carey during the first run of Whose Line Is It Anyway? (US), Esten went on to make appearances in Carey's improv shows Drew Carey's Green Screen Show and Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza.

5. Starred As Ward Cameron In Outer Banks

Chip starred as Ward Cameron, a wealthy business owner and the father of Madelyn Cline's character, Sarah Cameron, in the Netflix teen adventure drama series, Outer Banks.

The series centers around a group of teenagers from the Outer Banks of North Carolina who are set on an adventure when they stumble upon a treasure map with long-held secrets.

The series premiered for Netflix on April 15, 2020, and starred Chase Stokes as John B, Madison Bailey as Kiara "Kie", Jonathan Daviss as Pope, Rudy Pankow as JJ, Austin North as Toppe, and Drew Starkey as Rafe Cameron.  

4. Guest Starred As Josh Porter In The Office

Another of Chip's extensive television comedy catalog includes guest appearances in the NBC mockumentary sitcom, The Office.  

He made his first appearance as Josh Porter in episode sixteen of the show's second season and was a recurring presence throughout the second and third seasons before making his last appearance in the seventh episode of the third season.
