Balthazar Getty, an American actor & musician is famous as a member of Getty Family; he is the great-grandchild of J. Paul Getty (the founder of Getty Oil) and grandson of Sir John Paul Getty.

Balthazar was born Paul Balthazar Getty on January 22, 1975, in Los Angeles, California, the USA. 

His father John Paul Getty III (the son of American oil tycoon J. Paul Getty) was abducted at the age of 17 in 1973 while traveling in Rome. Reportedly, the demand for ransom was $17 million, which J. Paul Getty refused & as a result, "the kidnappers" cut off Getty III's right ear.

Later, after negotiations, he was released (5 months after abduction) for a reported ransom of $2.2 million. After that, Balthazar's father John Paul Getty III became addicted to drugs and alcohol that left him disabled after a stroke.

Balthazar's father & mother Gisela Martine Zacher, a German-born professional photographer, divorced in 1993. Following a long illness, his father died on February 5, 2011.

The American actor has a maternal-half sister named Anna, born in 1972.
