He might not be a spring chicken, but Aylward is still as sharp as a tack. He plays Freddie Laffter in the anthology crime-drama series, Briarpatch.

The show premiered on the USA Network on February 6, 2020, and stars Rosario Dawson as Allegra "Pick" Dill, an investigator for a senator, who investigates the mysteries surrounding her sister, Detective Felicity Dill's death in a car bombing.  

Dawson is flanked by such actors as Jay R. Ferguson, Kim Dickens, Edi Gathegi, and Stephanie Hill, among others. 

6. Starred alongside Ben Affleck in The Way Back

Speaking of Aylward still being as sharp as ever, he recently also landed a role in the Ben Affleck-starring sports-drama movie, The Way Back, as Father Edward Devine

The Way Back is a poignant movie in more ways than one: not only is it the culmination of Ben Affleck's journey to redemption after drug addiction nearly cost him his career, but it is also Aylward saying to the world that he has still got it!

The movie opened to rave reviews upon its release on March 6, 2020, with praise going to the performances by Affleck and Aylward.

Aylward has been in a long-standing marriage to Mary L Fields since 1986.

3. One of the Founders of Seattle's Empty Space Theatre

Before transitioning to primarily on-screen roles, John had been a stage performer on-and-off for the better part of 15 years.

He graduated from the University of Washington in 1970. In 1973, he founded Seattle's Empty Space Theatre with other like-minded individuals.

The theatre went out of commission in 2006 after years of financial issues, but it had once been a hub for stage performers and aspiring actors.

He was also part of the ensemble cast of the 1998 Michael Bay science-fiction disaster movie, Armageddon, joining Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Billy Bob Thornton, and Owen Wilson, among others.
