Who Is Ryan McKen?

Ryan McKen was born in Great London, England, United Kingdom. He is a television and stage actor. Fluent in English and Patois language, he speaks with the accent of Birmingham and Jamaican.

Moreover, Mcken is a skilled ballet, contemporary, jazz, and period dancer. He is also proficient in choral singing and possesses a baritone vocal range. In addition to music and dance, McKen also has a penchant in sports. While he is highly skilled in stage combat, he can also perform other sports like boxing, martial arts, skipping role, swimming, and weight training.

7. Where Did Ryan McKen Study?

After the age of 18, in 2010, Ryan took the one-year full-time professional acting diploma program in Birmingham Theatre Schools. He completed the diploma in 2011.

Later, McKen joined the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, premised at Clifton, Bristol, in 2012. He graduated in 2015 with a BA Hons degree in Professional Acting. 

6. Also An Acclaimed Stage Actor 

After completing his diploma, McKen appeared in a short British romantic comedy film called Titanic Love, directed by Mark Pressdee. The movie was filmed around Birmingham city. 

While graduating, McKen did various stage works in the Bristol Old Vic Theatres School studio. His first stage work was in Speaking in Tongues in 2013. The same year, he appeared in two other stage production of the studio: Twelfth Night and The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. 

McKen also worked in the short film, Bare All, produced by the Bristol Old Vic Theatre Schools film and television production department. The actor has gone on to appear on numerous stage works after his graduation.

5. Works In Movies

Mcken has worked in three movies as of now. In 2016, he appeared as Dinesh in the television movie NW bases on the story of English novelist Zadie Smith.

Later in 2018, he worked in the feature film Hope Gap as Dev directed by William Nicholson. Recently, in 2019, he played as Emre in yet another Surge

4. Works In Television Series 

In 2015, McKen portrayed the character of Tobey Dreyfus, a guest lead, in the medical drama television series Holby City.   

After getting recognition from his performance in British medical soap opera Doctors, where he played as Tom Pratt, McKen went to take the male lead in Channel 4's The State as Ziyad Kader.    

To perfect his performance as Ziyad Kader, Ryan hired a personal trainer and would visit Mosque with his co-star, Sam Otto, to learn how to pray and perform Wudu. With such determination, it is only a matter of time until McKen's career hits a milestone.

3. Breakout Role In Bancroft

Ryan McKen joined the cast of the British television thriller series Bancroft as a lead character. 

In the show, he is seen as Danesh Kamara, a younger brother of Kamara gang leader, Athif Kamara, portrayed bu Amit Dhut. Kamara is married to Zaheera Kamara, played by actress Anjli Mohindra, and has a son named Rahid Kamara with Zaheera. 

Having been scared by his brother and mother all his life, Kamara is coaxed into betraying his brother by the Elizabeth Bancroft, played by Sarah Parish. In season two, Kamara will be seen working closely with Bancroft, while his mother is on a mission to take revenge on Athif's death. 

Other talented actors like Adam Long, Adrian Edmondson, Lee Boardman, Charles Babalola, Faye Marsay, Amara Karan, Art Malik, Linus Roache are also part of the show. 

2. Other Interesting Projects 

Mcken worked with his co-star Faye Marsay in another show, a television movie called Shamed. In the film, McKen played as Mani Yalla while Marsay played as Sarah Ivy.

McKen has also appeared in the Emmy Award-nominated show Game of Thrones. He played as Lannister Soldier in the episode The Bells of the eighth season. 

After Games of Thrones, Ryan played as Faraz Reza in the British television crime drama series, Strangers. Currently, McKen appears in the second season of Bancroft.
