Five Famous Gay Couple of Hollywood

Coming out of the closet was really a dare until around a decade ago. The fear of how would society react on their sexuality always pulled the celebrities back. But the scenario has changed ever since the US government legalized same-sex marriage in 2015, a number of stars has come forward revealing their sexuality. Today on deck, we are talking about five such celebrity gay couples who have been together for years.

1. Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi

Ellen DeGeneres was one of the few celebrities who came out of the closet in the '90s. She revealed she was lesbian in 1997, which created a buzz in Hollywood. The same year, she was reported to be in a relationship with actress Anne Heche, whom she dated until 2000.

After that, she remained in a lowkey relationship with actress and photographer, Alexandra Hedison. They broke up in 2004. The same year, DeGeneres had an encounter with Portia de Rossi, and they hit it off soon. DeGeneres started dating Rossi publicly in 2004.

After the overturn of the gay marriage ban in California, the lovebirds of four years got engaged, and in August 2008, they got married at their home in Beverly Hills, California. Two years after their marriage, Portia de Rossi filed a petition to change her name to Portia Lee James DeGeneres, which was granted on September 23, 2010. The couple doesn't have any children together.

Meanwhile, DeGeneres and de Rossi were rumored to be divorcing, however, the 45-year-old Arrested Development star squashed the rumor in an interview with the Us Weekly.

2. Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef

Ricky Martin, a famous Puerto Rican singer, was in an on-and-off platonic relationship with Mexican TV host Rebecca de Alba. He reportedly dated her for over 14 years before coming out as gay. Martin publicly came out as gay on March 29, 2010, two years after he welcomed twin sons via surrogacy.

Martin started dating a Syrian-Swedish painter, Jwan Yosef, in April 2016, and just after months of courtship, Martin announced he and Yosef were engaged on the November 16 episode of Ellen DeGeneres Show. Nearly two years later, Martin announced he and Yosef were married.

The happily married couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, Lucia Martin-Yosef, in December 2018. They welcomed their second child, a son Renn Martin-Yosef in October 2019, which they announced the arrival of the baby on their Instagram.

3. Cheyenne Jackson and Jason Landau

Actor and singer Cheyenne Jackson is openly gay and has been dating Jason Landau. Jackson revealed his relationship with Landay back in October 2013, on his Instagram. In February 2014, they became engaged and got married that September in Encino, California. Jackson and Landau welcomed twins, a boy and a girl in October 2016.

Before, Jackson was in a relationship with a physicist Monte Lapka, with whom he started dating in 2000. The ex-lovebirds got married on September 3, 2011, in New York City. Within two years of their marriage, they announced their plan for divorce, and in September 2013, they filed for divorce.

4. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka

Actor and comedian, Neil Patrick Harris is primarily known for his comedy skills. He is famous for his title role on Doogie Howser M.D. The actor came out of the closet in November 2006, saying, "I am happy to dispel any rumors of misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest."

He was already in a relationship with David Burtka when he revealed he was gay. Later in September 2007, the couple attended the Emmy Awards as a couple for the first time. Later, Haris confirmed the relationship during his appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. There he revealed the pair was in a relationship since 2004.

On October 12, 2010, Harris and Burtka welcomed their twin children, a son Gideon Scott and daughter, Harper Grace. After gay marriage was legalized in New York in June 2011, Harris and Burtka announced their engagement through Twitter, revealing they had become engaged five years earlier, however, they kept it a secret until gay marriage was legalized.

In September 2014, Harris and Burtka got married in Italy, where their wedding was officiated by the How I Met Yout Mother-director Pamela Fryman. The happily married couple currently resides in New York City.

5. Chely Wright and Lauren Blitzer

American country music star, Chely Wright who came out as lesbian to the members of her immediate family and a few of her close friends between 2004 and 2006. And in 2007, the singer came out publicly. She spent the next three years writing her autobiography, in which she has thoroughly described her sexuality.

In her autobiography, Wright has revealed that by early thirties, she had had sexual relationships with two women. She revealed she was only 19 when she first had the same-sex experience. She stayed in the relationship with the unnamed girl from 1993 to 2004. She describes her then-girlfriend the love of her life, whom she met after winning her first recording contract.

As per the reports, she is one of the first members of the country music community to come out.

In the early 2010s, Wright started dating LGBT rights advocate, Lauren Blitzer, and on April 6, 2011, she announced her engagement to Blitzer. On August 20, 2011, Wright and Blitzer got married in a private wedding on a country estate in Connecticut. The welcomed identical twins, George Samuel and Everett Joseph, on May 18, 2013.
