Most fans probably know her from Ridley Scott's historical epic, Gladiator, or Wonder Woman, but Nielsen has been churning out stellar performances in far more impressive titles, and for far longer.

These are seven facts about Connie Nielsen.     

7. Plays Corinna Hodel in I am the Night

Connie Nielsen stars in the limited drama series, I am the Night. She plays Corinna Hodel, the-then wife of the prime suspect in the gruesome Black Dahlia murder.

The series, based on the memoirs of the granddaughter of the prime suspect in the Black Dahlia murder case, features a star cast that consists of such talents as Chris Pine, India Eisley, Jefferson Mays, Leland Orser, Golden Brooks, Jay Paulson, Yul Vazquez, and Justin Cornwell, to name a few.

The six-episode series aired on TNT on January 28, 2019.   

6. Was in an Eight-Year Relationship with Metallica Drummer, Lars Ulrich

Connie was in a relationship with Lars Ulrich, the drummer of the thrash-metal band, Metallica, from 2004 to 2012.

They have a son together, Bryce Thadeus Ulrich-Nielsen, born on born 21 May 2007. Bryce marked Connie's second child: she has another son, Sebastian Sartor, with her ex-husband, Fabio Sartor

5. Starred alongside Russell Crowe in Gladiator

Visionary filmmaker, Ridley Scott's 2000 historical epic, Gladiator, gave big breaks not only to Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix but also to Connie, who played Lucilla.

For her portrayal, Connie was nominated in the Vegas Film Critics Society Award and Screen Actors Guild Award, winning the Empire Award for Best Actress. 

4. Plays Queen Hippolyta in Wonder Woman

From one royalty to the next, Connie plays Queen Hippolyta, the mother of Gal Gadot's Diana/Wonder Woman and the leader of the Atlanteans, in the 2017 superhero movie, Wonder Woman.

Connie reprised her role for Justice League later that year. She is set to play Queen Hippolyta in the upcoming sequel, Wonder Woman 1984.  

3. She is on Instagram

The fact that even at age 54, Connie is an Instagram presence is a testament to her eternal beauty and effervescent personality.

 Connie was born on July 3, 1965, in Frederikshavn, Denmark. When she realized she wanted to be an actress, she traveled to France when she turned 18 and then to Italy to train as an actress and a model.

As such, Connie is proficient in five languages: namely, English, German, Danish, Swedish, French and Italian.
