As a star who found the spotlight at the tender age of 13, Justin Bieber was put into immense pressure and responsibility right from a very early age. While he also enjoyed stardom and its perks, he has also gotten into a lot of troubles.
From drug abuse to spitting on fans, Bieber has been the center of a lot of controversies and at one time was also nicknamed a ‘pop brat’.
Bieber got into a lot of trouble with the law before he turned 20. In fact, he had been charged with multiple small crimes before he was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida, USA for suspected DUI with singer Khalil.
At the time, he had smoked pot and had taken Xanax but was charged with driving without due care and attention rather than the bigger crime of DUI.
He also posted a lengthy message on social media addressing his fans on his drug use and the trouble invited by it. He also told fans that he used drugs to alleviate the pressures of being a child star and getting famous at an early age.
According to him, he first started smoking marijuana at age 13, right at the time when he got famous. In YouTube, he said that
People don’t know how serious it got. It was legit crazy scary. I was waking up in the morning and the first thing I was doing was popping pills and smoking a blunt and starting my day. It just got scary,
Bieber was once video-telling an offensive joke in which he used the N-word multiple times. Even going so far as to replace the word, girl from the song "One Less Lonely Girl", with the N-word.
In one of the most controversial statements from Justin that went viral, he said that if he killed an African-American, he would be "part of the KKK”.
The Jewish holocaust is one of the most horrendous events to ever take place in history and Anne Frank was a victim.
To say that "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully, she would have been a Belieber." Was considered hugely offensive by people all over the world and Bieber was absolutely berated for his comments.
Similarly, he once bowed in front Yasukuni Shrine in Japan which is a shrine built to ‘enshrine the souls of some of the country’s most brutal war criminals’ and posted it on social media. He got huge backlash from fans for the incident too.
Bieber has also been in the media for his views on abortion. He said,
I really don’t believe in abortion. I think [an embryo] is a human. It’s like killing a baby.
When further asked that if abortion would be ok if the woman had been raped, he went on to say
Um, well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don’t know how that would be a reason. I wouldn’t be able to judge that.
His statements caused outrage among fans.
When Bieber was 19, TMZ published an article in which they claimed the pop star was spitting on fans from his hotel balcony but later it was revealed that there were no fans below the balcony and his spit got on the fans rather than him intentionally spitting on them.
