Kim Sung-kyu is a Korean actor who is prominent for his performance in Netflix's Kingdom. He is also a singer and is the lead vocalist of South Korean boy band Infinite.

Kim Sung-kyu, born in 1986, is currently 34 years old. Having been born in South Korea, he holds South Korean citizenship.

6. Has Performed In Stage Plays

Apart from playing in movies and series, the 34-years old actor works as a stage actor. His first work in 12 Men as Jury No.8 back in 2011 led him to Ctrl-A(28).        

As a matter of fact, Kim co-founded the troupe, Theatre of Theatre, in 2013 while in college. From the troupe, he performed a production of 12 Angry Men in Seoul’s theatre district called Daehangno.

Later, he played in Ancient Futures from 2015 to 2016. Right after the Ancient Futures, Kim performed in the Planaria. As of now, he has worked in four theatre shows.

Kim has been active in the entertainment industry since 2006. He studied in a private university in Pocheon City called Daejin University. The university alumni include Bae Soo-bin, Choi Jin-hyuk, Hong In-young, Park Ki-woong, Ki Tae-young, Lim Ju-hwan, and many more notable stars.    

Following his work in theatre, Kim appeared in the short film Nineteen Ninety Nine in 2011. A year later, in 2012, he appeared in yet another short film called Beloved.

The talented actor, with his determination and versatility, grasped the role of Detective team two members in the heist film The Con Artists.

This marked his acting debut alongside well-known artists like Kim Woo-bin, Lee Hyun-woo, and Ko Chang-seok. The movie earned $18 million worldwide, with a $35,115 opening in Singapore. It is also the first film to shoot in the city of Abu Dhabi.

2. Received Two Nominations For The Outlaws

The 34-years old actor career effectively propelled after appearing as Yang-tae in the action film The Outlaws. In the movie, Kim played as a new criminal gang leader Jang Chen's left-hand man, gaining notability with his ruthless and terrifying image. 

For his performance, Kim became nominated for 2nd The Seoul Awards and 54th Baesang Arts Awards in the category Best New Actor. The movie's success also paved him the path for some more exciting projects.

After a supporting role in The Accidental Detective 2: In Action, the 34-years old actor achieved global recognition as the main cast of Netflix's first original Korean series, Kingdom.

Playing as Yeong-shin and showcasing his fantastic fighting skills, Kim has left his marks in the audience's heart. Good news for all; he will be reprising his role in the second series of Kingdom, scheduled to release on March 13, 2020.
