Lin-Manuel Miranda is prominent for creating and working in the Broadway musicals In the Heights and Hamilton. In fact, he is a playwright, singer-songwriter, composer, actor, and producer.

7. He Is Of Puerto Rican Descent

Miranda, born in New York, is the son of Dr. Luz Towns Miranda and Luis A. Miranda, Jr. His father, Luis, grew up in Puerto Rico and lived there all his life. While Miranda spent his childhood in Washington Heights, he would occasionally visit his paternal grandparents living in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, in summer breaks.

Lin's mother, Dr. Luz Towns, ancestors were an interracial couple who spent their lifetime escaping slavery and abhorrent laws. Moreover, his mother forebears were of Mexican and Mestizo heritage. Because of this, Miranda also classifies himself as a quarter Mexican.

5. Won Various Accolades For In the Heights

Manuel wrote the first draft for the musical In the Heights back in 1999 when he was still a freshman in a college. After getting permission to present the musical at Wesleyan University, he received a request from John Buffalo Mailer, Neil Patrick Stewart, Anthony Veneziale and Thomas Kail to expand the show to a Broadway production. 

Later, in 2002, Miranda, in collaboration with Mailer and Kail, revised the play. Two years later, In the Heights playwright, Quiara Alegría Hudes also joined the trio.  

The musical received 13 Tony Awards nominations. It eventually won four Tony awards in the category of Best Musical and Best Original Score. Moreover, In the Heights also won a Grammy Award in the Best Musical Theater Album category. 

In addition, Miranda received Tony Award nomination in Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as Usnavi in the musical and won the award for Best Original Score.

Miranda created a musical called Hamilton about the Founding Father after reading Ron Chernow’s biography on Alexander Hamilton.

Along with its diverse cast, Hamilton went to be a breakthrough work of Miranda. The 40-years old actor earned the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in for writing the book, music, and lyrics of Hamilton. Along with the Pulitzer award, Miranda also received various honours, including a Tony Awards for his work on Hamilton.

3. Miranda Has A Net Worth Of $40 Million

Lin-Manuel has worked in numerous movies like The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Mary Poppins Returns. Manuel has also appeared on television shows like How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Saturday Night Live, to name a few.

Later in 2005, after meeting on Facebook, he rekindled his friendship with Nadal, and both eventually started dating. Currently, the couple has two children: Sebastian Miranda, born in November 2014, and Francisco Miranda, born in February 2018.

1. What Is He Working On Now?

In 2019, Lin-Manuel appeared as Lee Scoresby in the Philip Pullman novel based television series His Dark Materials alongside Dafne KeenJames McAvoyRuth WilsonAnne-Marie DuffClarke Peters, James Cosmo, Ariyon Bakare, Will Keen, and many more. 

Currently, Miranda is working on three movies. He is a composer and producer of an upcoming musical drama film In the Heights, all set to release on June 26, 2020. 

The 40-years old actor has also completed filming yet another musical film, Hamilton. He will play as Alexander Hamilton along with being writer, composer, and producer of the film. It is scheduled to release on October 15, 2021.  

From February 2020, he has begun filming the musical drama film Tick, Tick... Boom!, marking it his directorial debut. Netflix has received the license to distribute the movie whose release date is yet undecided.
