Owning your exclusive tropical island paradise is a dream I am sure many of us share. With the wealth and sway that comes with being a high-profile celebrity, a select few have been able to make their dreams into reality.

In this list, we take a look at some of the biggest celebrities on the planet and learn more about their island getaway.

Johnny Depp

It is quite fitting that the Pirates of the Caribbean-star owns an island in the Caribbean.

The 56-year-old Kentucky-native took a page out of his hero, Marlon Brando's playbook and purchased a 45-acre island off the coast of the Bahamas. The island, part of the Exumas Islands in the south of the Bahamas is named Little Hall’s Pond Cay. 

The mile-long private island reportedly set Depp back $3.6 million.

Nicholas Cage

Nicholas Cage is no stranger to luxury islands. The Oscar Award-winning actor was living in a luxury home on an island when he spent $3 million on a luxury island in Leaf Cay in the Bahamas.

He initially wanted to turn the island into a tropical resort when he bought it in 2006, but due to legal restrictions, he settled for a private island paradise.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo sank $1.75 million of his earnings into buying a luxury island in Blackadore Cay, Belize in 2005.

The 2.2 mile-long island is a tropical paradise befitting the Hollywood royalty with beautiful sandy beaches and located near the Great Barrier Reef.

Celine Dion

Celine Dion owned a private island off the coast of Canada. The French-Canadian purchased a luxury island in Rivière des Mille Îles, Quebec, Canada, and had a French-style Chateau custom made. 

She lived there for years before putting the island up for sale in 2012. The property, chateau and all, was listed for $25.5 million and was bought in 2016.

Steven Spielberg

One of the biggest filmmakers of all time, Spielberg is often associated with excellence. So, it is not surprising that he spent millions purchasing two neighboring islands in an undisclosed location in Madeira Archipelago off the coast of Portugal. 

The uninhabited island was turned into a tropical getaway for Steven and his family as well as select friends.

Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson spent a whopping $15 million on a private island in the Mago Islands in Fiji. One of the largest private islands in the South Pacific, the island is more a getaway than a luxury resort.

The humongous island spans over 5000 acres and serves as an escape for Mel and his friends when he wants to be away from the spotlight.

Eddie Murphy

One of the most respected actors/comedians in all of Hollywood, Eddie made headlines investing $15 million on an island called Rooster Cay in Long Cay, Bahamas. 

Reportedly bought in 2007, the island is used for undisclosed reasons beyond serving as a tropical paradise for the comedian and his closest friends.

Shakira

Shakira was part of a joint investment with Pink Floyd former-band-member Roger Waters and Spanish musician Alejandro Sanz to turn a 700-acre island in the Bahamas into a luxury resort.

The resort is complete with luxury condos, art galleries, private beaches, and an 18-hole golf course. 

Beyonce and Jay-Z

One of showbiz's most influential power couples, Jay-Z and Beyonce owns an island in the Bahamas. Gifted by Jay-Z to Beyonce, the island is reportedly worth $3 million. 

The lush green island houses a private home for the power couple.

Larry Ellison

Larry is one of the top entrepreneurs of the USA. As the owner of one of the biggest software companies in the world, the billionaire spent $500 to $600 million on a luxury island in Lanai, Hawaii.

He plans to turn the island into a luxury resort.

Ricky Martin

Named the "King of Latin Pop", the Puerto Rican owns a luxury island near Angra dos Reis off the coast of Brazil.

The island reportedly set Ricky back $8 million. The luxury island is replete with lush vegetation, stunning beaches, and a luxury mansion where Ricky goes to escape from the limelight.
