He was born as Ricky Dene Gervais on 25th June 1961 in Reading, Berkshire in England. He is the son of father, Lawrence Raymond "Jerry" Gervais and Eva Sophia Gervais.

As a child, he attended Whitley Whitley Park Infants and Junior Schools and later enrolled at Ashmead Comprehensive School. For further education, he studied at the University of Reading and University College London.

The 58-years-old English comedian is in a relationship with partner Jane Fallon since 1982. The high-school couple have never been married and have no kids to date, and plan to keep it that way.
