He went to local high school and later enrolled at Stanford University where he majored in English. During his second year, he left Stanford and went to India and Nepal where he studied meditation with Buddhist and Hindu religious teachers for about eleven years.
Sam went to Stanford in 1997 and earned his B.A. degree in philosophy in 2000. Moreover, he also attended the University of California from where he earned his Ph.D. degree in cognitive neuroscience in 2009.
