Kiernan Shipka Award Winning Performance In Mad Men, Her Interest In Fashion And Other Hobbies In Seven Facts

Kiernan Brennan Shipka is best known for her role as Sabrina Spellman in the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She is also known for playing Sally Draper on the AMC series Mad Men.

7. Kiernan Prefers To Be Up To Date With Fashion

At just the age of 12, Kiernan was giving an interview with the New York Times regarding her apparel. She would wear Ralph Lauren velvet pants for press day, Marc Jacobs sweater for Mirror Mirror premiere,  Jimmy Choo kitten heels for a trip to NYC, and Chanel steel-toed navy suede booties for Mad Men press.     

She has cited Grace Kelly, and Audrey Hepburn as influences stating their style seems "timeless" to her. 

In addition to this, Kiernan also loves Helena Bonham Carter's style. Nevertheless, she has spent more than half of her life with a job that requires her to play dress up, so it's no doubt she started loving the play! No wonder she took a history of western dress course as part of her independent studies.

6. Her Name Is Of Irish Origin

The name Kiernan is an Irish name that is mostly found in the Counties of Mayo, Galway, and Cavan. More specifically, it is a derivation of an ancient Irish name Tighearnaigh. 

Rather than being a personal name of a leader, the word itself meant 'Lord' or 'Master.' The meaning of Kiernan is 'Son of a lord.' 

5. Active In Martial Arts

It should be noted that Kiernan's hands are her lethal weapons. Well, she has a black belt in taekwondo, a Korean martial art that is well-known for its kicks.   

Back in 2012, a year before receiving a black belt, she exclaimed, "I will have to break a brick, which I'm a little nervous about, but I have broken really thick wooden boards before." in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Furthermore, Kiernan does Muay Thai as well, which is well-known for its willingness to combine the use of the fists with the use of the elbows and the knees.

4. Shipka Has A Passion For Ballroom Dancing

This young actress is not just active in martial arts and acting. Shipka has been taking ballroom dancing lessons since the age of five.    

Further, she has also expressed her fondness for ballet, stating ballet studio makes her feel like she is in a different world.    

Besides, her favorite sport is tennis. After schoolwork and ballroom dancing, she would rush to the tennis court.

3. Her Parents Have German And Irish Ancestry

Shipka was born in Chicago and has an American nationality; however, she possesses a mixed ethnicity. 

Kiernan's father is of one-half Bohemian/Czech and one-quarter German descent. His other ancestry is English, some Scottish, and distant French. While Kiernan's mother is of three-quarters Irish and one-quarter Italian ancestry. Moreover, her surname is from her Bohemian roots.

2. Plans To Start A Band

In an interview with the Dazed magazine, Kiernan revealed that she has been learning electric guitar and would like to start a band, preferably a garage-punk. And, that too with Amandla Stenberg, who she cites as a source of admiration.              

In addition to playing the guitar, she also loves writing songs and playing the piano. Shipka thinks her musical taste represents her character Sabrina, her favorite being Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac. She sure has an impeccable taste in everything!  

1. Youngest Person To Be On Inside The Actors Studio

The promising actress Shipka debuted on television at the age of five months in the medical drama television series ER.    

But it seems like this is not the only thing that can be credited to her achievement as a young star! Shipka is the youngest person to be interviewed on Inside the Actors Studio, an American television show.        

However, she was only allowed to be on stage during a certain discussion. But that surely did not stop her from stealing the show with her charm in every moment of the scene.   

Needless to say, Kiernan was named one of "The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014" by Time magazine and listed as "20 Actors To Watch That Are Under 20" by IndieWire in the same year.
