The phenomenal on-screen figure skater was in real-life a professional ice hockey player. Evan has had years of experience on an ice rink. In an interview with the Entertainment Focus, the 24-years old actor stated, 

"I started playing hockey when I was 5 and I quit when I was 19. I played for 15 years."

Moreover, he had also remained in the British Columbia Hockey League for three seasons. Later, he received a scholarship to play for the University of Massachusetts Lowell Division I team in the NCAA. However, after suffering from several injuries, Evan Roderick decided to leave the sport and made his decision to join the film industry.

"My favorite part of this character's expansion was that he was not going to be a stereotype. He was going to be someone unique and strong, someone who represented the LGBTQ community, accurately."

Roderick played as Justin Davis in the Netflix's television series Spinning Out. To prep for his role, the 24-years old underwent extensive training for weeks. Initially, he participated in four weeks of training in Vancouver. Later, Evan practiced alongside his co-star Kaya Scodelario for three weeks in Toronto before the shoot. 

Evan talked about 'learning a lot' from the Skin's star Kaya and also stated that she is an amazing actor to work with.
