Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, or simply Ruby Serkis is the daughter of English actor Andy Serkis and his wife Lorraine Serkis.

She is an actress in her own right and has starred alongside her father in numerous projects, the most recent of which is the Netflix coming-of-age adventure series, The Letter for the King.

7. Oldest Daughter of Actor Andy Serkis

Within the film fraternity, the last name Serkis will forever be linked to the English acting icon, Andy Serkis: a pioneer of voice-over and motion-capture performance.

Ruby Serkis not only shares the same last name as Andy Serkis, but she also shares a familial bond with Andy: she is his oldest daughter.

Ruby was born to Andy and his wife, actress Lorraine Ashbourne. Besides Ruby, they have two other children, Sonny and Louis.    

6. Plays the On-screen Daughter of Her Real-life Father in The Letter for the King

Besides being an actor extraordinaire, Andy is also a doting father and the fact is none more so obvious than in the Netflix coming-of-age adventure series, The Letter for the King, where Andy plays the on-screen father of Ruby's character, Lavinia. And perhaps no one is more stoked than Andy.

When asked about their pairing up in an interview, Andy said with giddy pride:

“We are using a shorthand that we know with each other and a way of relating to each other. It’s such a rare opportunity to spend time together working and now to finally see her doing something and play such a great role is just remarkable and to be part of it too is fantastic. I’m sure I embarrass Ruby cos that’s what dads are for but she’s very good and she doesn’t let me know it when I do embarrass her."

Other joining the father-daughter duo are the likes of Amir Wilson, Thaddea Graham, Gijs Blom, Islam Bouakkaz, David Wenham, Jonah Lees and Yorick van Wageningen, to name a few.        

5. Had Uncredited Roles in The Hobbit Movie Trilogy

When putting the name Serkis and The Lord of the Rings together, one immediately thinks back to Andy Serkis and his pioneering motion-capture work as Gollum. But in the prequel trilogy, collectively known as The Hobbit Trilogy, Andy Serkis' daughter, Ruby, had minor roles.

In the first installment, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Ruby played a young hobbit and in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. she played a girl in Laketown, both of which would go uncredited, but does make for one hell of a coincidence.

Trivia: Did You know? Both Ruby's younger siblings, Sonny and Louis played young hobbits in extended editions of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

4. Debuted in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll Starring Her Father

Ruby debuted in 2010 at age 12 in the biographical movie based on the life of the English musician, Ian Dury, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. 

While the biopic starred Andy Serkis in a leading capacity, his daughter, Ruby, however, played a minor background character: a kid at a birthday party.  

3. Appeared in the Channel 4 Miniseries, National Treasure

Although her career is just budding with no more than 8 acting credits to her name, Ruby was able to land a role in the acclaimed Channel 4 miniseries, National Treasure.

Ruby played a younger version of Susan Lynch's character, Christina in two out of four episodes of the miniseries. 

2. Set to Play Celia Austin in The Serpent

As Ruby is starting to come into her own as an actress and growing out of her father's shadow, she has landed the role of Celia Austin in the TV miniseries based on the life of the French serial killer, Charles Sobhraj, The Serpent.

Not much is known about the miniseries, but Ruby is set to play Cecilia Austin. The show is currently pre-production and set to start shooting soon.

Ruby Serkis was born Ruby Ashbourne Serkis in 1998. She is 22 years old as of March 2020. 

Born to actors Andy Serkis and Lorraine Ashbourne, she is the oldest child and the only daughter born to her parents: the other two being brothers; Sonny, born in 2000; and Louis, born in 2004.
